Press Release – Calcavecchia and Harris commit to the Sanford International

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – PGA TOUR Champion golfers Mark Calcavecchia and John Harris have officially committed to the Sanford International presented by Cambria on September 16-22 at Minnehaha Country Club, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Calcavecchia is from Laurel, Nebraska and is excited to play in front of family and friends again at this year’s tournament. According to Calcavecchia at age 14, he played a round of golf with Jack Nicklaus at Lost Tree Golf Course. Says he was so excited he didn’t fall asleep the night before. He concentrated on golf when family moved from Nebraska to Florida. Played as many as 72 holes a day during the summer months. Calcavecchia’s most notable victory may be his Open Championship in 1989 at Royal Troon when he beat Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in a playoff.

University of Minnesota graduate, John Harris, resides in Edina, Minnesota. Harris was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and grew up in Roseau, Minnesota, near the Canada–US border. Harris was the second-leading scorer on the Gophers 1974 NCAA national hockey championship team, and then two months later won the individual Big Ten championship in golf. His first win on the PGA TOUR Champions came in his fifth season at the 2006 Commerce Bank Championship.
