2019 Charles Schwab Cup Champion McCarron Commits to Sanford International

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – PGA TOUR Champions golfers Scott McCarron, Mark Calcavecchia, and David Toms have officially committed to Sanford International presented by Cambria September 7-13 at Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

After leading the Charles Schwab Cup standings for 21 consecutive weeks and earning his first Charles Schwab Cup title, Scott McCarron was named the recipient of the 2019 Jack Nicklaus Award as the PGA TOUR Champions Player of the Year. McCarron recorded three victories in 2019 at Mitsubishi Electric Classic, Insperity Invitational, and Mastercard Japan Championship during the season.

Born in Laurel, Nebraska, Calcavecchia is a 13-time winner on the PGA TOUR and a 4-time winner on the PGA TOUR Champions. Calcavecchia’s most notable victory may be his Open Championship in 1989 at Royal Troon when he beat Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in a playoff. While playing in junior tournaments, Calcavecchia often competed against Jack Nicklaus’ son, Jackie, and as a result began a lifelong friendship at the age of 14 with the legendary pro.

David Toms posted three runner-up finishes in 2019 at the U.S. Senior Open Championship, Regions Tradition, and Mitsubishi Electric Championship. In June 2012, Toms recorded his best-ever performance in a U.S. Open when he finished T-4. Toms had been one of the co-leaders after 36 holes at one under par alongside fellow Americans Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk.
